STOCKTON — With three victories, the first day of the Big 8 Conference Championships was a good one for the Modesto Junior College track and field team.
Hannah Peters won the pole vault at 10 feet and teammate Marissa Miglin was third (8-0) on the first day of competition at Delta College.
Amanda Moreno won the 10,000 meters in 42 minutes, 58 seconds, followed by teammate Sofia Villalobos (44:10) and Natalie Benoy, who was fifth in 45:08. Women's coach Mary Shea said the athletes were helped by a later start time, 7:05 p.m., after the sun went down.
"We fought to get the 10K pushed back and it was worth it," Shea said. "It was 90-something degrees today. That made a huge difference."
