Ebster’s 71 top score after first day of Bumgardner golf tourney

Gregori High School’s Chris Ebster shot a 1-under-par 71 to take the lead in the boys 16-18 age division after the first day of the Bumgardner Memorial Junior Golf Tournament on Monday at Del Rio Golf and Country Club.

Ebster shot a par 36 on the front nine, recording two birdies and two bogeys. The senior ran off a string of nine pars before closing his round with a birdie on No. 18.

Central Catholic graduate Nick O’Brien is three shots back after a 74.

Leading the girls competition is Mountain View’s Maddie Jun, who shot a 2-over 74.

In the boys 14-15 age group, Oakdale’s Ryan Meyer leads after firing a par 76, while Austin Tran of Fresno leads the boys 12-13 with his 3-over 75.

In the boys 10-11, who only play nine holes, Ripon’s Trent Vink tied with Redwood City’s Trevor Moquin with an 8-over 44.

Ansen Tran, little brother of Austin, leads the boys 7-9 with a 44.

Rounding out the girls competition, Doodle Yuen of Monte Sereno paced the 12- to 14-year-olds with her round of 79, while Amelia Garibaldi of Stockton carded a 1-over 37 to lead the 10-11s.

Torrie Bowman leads the 7- to 9-year olds with a 13-over 49.

The final round of the Bumgardner takes place Tuesday at Del Rio.
