Nuts can’t hang on, fall to Blaze

Sean Buckley homered and had an RBI single in Bakersfield’s three-run eighth inning to lead the Blaze to a come-from-behind 7-5 victory over the Modesto Nuts on Friday night at Sam Lynn Ballpark.

Chris O’Dowd had two hits, including an eighth-inning homer, for Modesto. The solo blast was O’Dowd’s fifth long ball of the season.

Buckley, who finished 3 for 3, smacked his fourth homer of the season in the fifth, a two-run blast off Modesto starter Ryan Carpenter.

Trailing 5-4, the Blaze tallied three runs off Modesto relievers Alving Mejias and Jon Keck (0-2), with Sammy Diaz, Jeff Gelalich and Buckley each knocking RBI singles.

Matt Wessinger, Dean Espy and Patrick Valaika each knocked in runs for Modesto.
