After dropping its first game of the season Friday, the Modesto Junior College women's soccer team looked sharp in a 3-0 shutout of visiting Delta on Tuesday.
Cassie Gause scored in her fourth consecutive Big 8 Conference game, and Abby Barton and Jessica Frahm also found the back of the net.
The Pirates (14-1, 4-1 Big 8) moved up to third in the country despite the loss, which was at No. 9 American River. Three teams of the top 10 teams in the nscaa.com poll are in the Big 8 Conference. Modesto plays host to No. 5 Santa Rosa on Friday at 3:30 p.m.

MJC 1, WEST HILLS 0, at Lemoore -- Roberto "Beto" Ellis-Lopez scored in the eighth minute off an assist from Hormoz Maragoul and the Pirates' defense did the rest. Mark Weigand stopped three shots for Modesto (6-6-4) in the nonconference game.
CSUS 7TH, at Chico -- Cal State Stanislaus finished seventh at the InterWest Wildcat Classic while California Collegiate Athletic Association rival Sonoma State won the team title. The Warriors shot 916 as a team, led by redshirt freshman Trevor Blair. He shot a 228, which tied for 18th.
Sonoma State's Jarin Todd shot under-par for the second day in a row to earn medalist honors (214) while three others tied for second at even-par on the par-72 Butte Creek Country Club course.
MJC 4TH, at Vallejo -- Mare Island Golf Club posed one of the Pirates' toughest threats of the season as Modesto finished fourth in a Big 8 Conference meet at 388. Sacramento City won the team title with a 337. Amanda Agostini led Modesto with the third lowest score of the day, an 85 on the par-72 course.
