The Pombo Classic returns to Madera Speedway with Round 4 of the Super Saturday Series.
The program features a triple main event for the combined 410 and 360 Supermodifieds, BCRA Midgets and Western Late Models. There also will be racing in the Legends of the Pacific, American Limited Stock Car and Spectator Racing Series divisions.
The event honors racing legend Al Pombo of Fresno, whose career ran from the 1940s into the '70s. He earned more than 500 main-event victories, seven NASCAR super-modified titles and numerous track titles.
The "Race for the Chase" begins for the Western Late Model class. The standings have been reset for the top 20 drivers in the first half with Kyle Gottula of Modesto leading with 830 points. Joey Stearns of Stockton is second with 820, followed by Modesto's Jeff Belletto with 810.

NITRO NIGHT IS SOLD OUT -- All 125 tickets have been sold for the second Eric Medlen Nitro Night at the Fior Charity Dinner next Thursday in San Francisco.
The dinner is held in advance of the FRAM Autolite NHRA Nationals next weekend at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma and recognizes the life of the Funny Car driver from Oakdale who died in March 2007 of injuries suffered in an accident during a test session in Gainesville, Fla. Medlen attended the inaugural event in 2006, and the event was renamed in his honor last year.
All proceeds will benefit Speedway Children's Charities, the charitable arm of Infineon Raceway.
