NCAA men's title tilt clanks with ratings
Even with a dramatic finish, Monday's NCAA Tournament men's championship game couldn't match the TV ratings for last year's final. Kansas' 75-68 overtime win over Memphis on CBS drew a fast national rating of 12.1 and a 20 share, down 8 percent from 2007. Last season's title game, in which Florida beat Ohio State to become the first team in 15 years to repeat as champions, earned a 13.2. Ratings represent the percentage of all homes with TVs watching a program. The share is the percentage tuned in among households with the TV on.
Ravens kicker wants to be union director
Matt Stover, the Baltimore Ravens' veteran kicker, has begun a campaign to replace Gene Upshaw as executive director of the NFL Players Association by next March. "I feel that the board must begin to prepare for a change in leadership immediately," Stover said in an e-mail to the union's executive board and player representatives that was obtained Tuesday by ESPN. Union president Kevin Mawae (Tennessee Titans) said Stover's opinion does not reflect that of the players. Upshaw, whose contract runs through 2010, has said he will not leave until the union gets through its latest negotiations with owners.
