PATTERSON -- Steve Vasquez pinned all three of his foes en route to the 162-pound class, leading Central Catholic to the team title Saturday at the Western Athletic Conference championships.
Central wrestlers prevailed in 10 of the 14 weight classes -- the Raiders amassed 299 points to 128½ for runner-up Livingston. Central's Steve Strange was voted Coach of the Year.
Among the better finals in the packed gym came at 173 pounds -- where Orestimba's Vince Mattos defeated Central's Giovanni Sani 6-2 -- and at 127 where the Raiders' Maverick Ille edged Livingston's Mike Gutierrez 11-10 in a match decided in the last minute.
TRANS-VALLEY LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS, at Escalon -- Brian Toy (112 pounds) and Anthony Rodriguez (119) of Escalon were named the Outstanding Lightweights, leading the Cougars to the team title with 173½ points.

Christian Franks (103), Cody Bandini (130) and Tyler Draper (145) also won their weight classes for Escalon.
Waterford, which had the Outstanding Middleweight in Eric Gomez (135) and the Outstanding Heavyweight in Jeff Moran (189), was second with 140 points.
TVL Coach of the Year Derek Scott of Escalon said the two best matches were at 135 pounds, where Gomez beat Tyler Gonzalez of Escalon 5-1, and at 160 where Jake Brigdon of Ripon defeated Ty Stroud of Hughson, 13-2.
