High school basketball roundup: Aching Livingston wins

Injuries have left Livingston High's girls basketball team with seven players for the rest of the season. The Wolves are still tough to beat.

Nina Garcia scored 15 of her season-high 24 points in the first quarter to lead a 22-6 run, and she had seven steals and five assists as the Wolves (16-4, 8-2) blew out visiting Gustine 56-33 in a Western Athletic Conference game Monday night.

Livingston had 26 steals against the Redskins (4-18, 0-10). Denise Pulido recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Zaira Padilla grabbed 11 rebounds.

Veronica Perry scored 14 points for Gustine.

Trans-Valley League

MODESTO CHRISTIAN 68, RIPON 25, at Ripon -- Jessica Graham scored six of her game-high 15 points in the third quarter, and Stefani Agostini made two 3-pointers in the third as the Crusaders (18-3, 9-0) pulled away from the Indians (6-14, 4-4).

RIPON CHRISTIAN 39, HUGHSON 30, at Ripon Christian -- Briana DeVries had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, and the Knights (12-8, 6-3) built an 11-point halftime lead en route to a victory over the Huskies (12-6, 5-4).

ESCALON 48, RIVERBANK 20, at Escalon -- McKenzie Brown and Katie Kaech combined for 22 points, and the Cougars (8-12, 3-6) led the whole way against the Bruins (1-19, 0-10).

Southern League

TURLOCK CHRISTIAN 56, WATERFORD 26, at Turlock Christian -- The Eagles' half-court defense shut down the Wildcats (7-11, 5-5). Turlock Christian (14-8, 7-3) limited Waterford to 10 field goals and held post player Nicole McHenry to six points through three quarters. Erin Santiago scored a game-high 24 points and had four assists for the Eagles, and Bianca Davoodian had 14 points, 12 rebounds and five of Turlock Christian's 24 steals. Amy Wright also had five steals. McHenry finished with 13 points.

LE GRAND 50, DELHI 14, at Le Grand -- Veronica Moreno and Janet Valenzuela combined for 24 points, and the league-leading Bulldogs (13-4, 9-0) outscored the Hawks (2-16, 1-9) 24-4 in the middle two quarters.

MARIPOSA 40, DENAIR 19, at Mariposa -- Joree Peracca grabbed 12 rebounds, and the Grizzlies (8-11, 6-3) limited the Coyotes (4-20, 1-10) to six field goals. Mariposa led 18-2 after one quarter.

Mother Lode League

LINDEN 76, ARGONAUT 31, at Linden -- Nina Sanguinetti made three 3-pointers during an 18-9 first quarter, and the Lions (14-5, 6-1) made all six of their 3-pointers in the first half of their blowout victory over the Mustangs (12-9, 3-6). Sanguinetti was one of four Linden players in double figures, and she and Michelle Knipper had four steals each. Jordan Baca had seven assists.

Modesto Metro Conference boys

JOHANSEN 56, ENOCHS 50, at Johansen -- Jesse Singer had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, and the Vikings (9-12, 4-5) held off the Eagles (5-16, 2-7) in the fourth quarter. Singer, Adam Rodriguez (15 points) and Jeff Horne each scored five points in the first quarter as Johansen took a 19-8 lead. Enochs made it close in the final period by making 11 of 12 free-throw attempts.
