Cal falls to No. 22 Arizona State in two overtimes

BERKELEY -- Cal solved 22nd-ranked Arizona State's nasty matchup zone defense.

Stopping the Sun Devils' freshman duo of James Harden and Ty Abbott was another matter.

Harden scored 25 of his career-high 27 points after halftime and Abbott hit four 3-pointers in the final 8.1 seconds of regulation and two overtimes as the Sun Devils celebrated their first national ranking in 13 years with a 99-90 victory over the Golden Bears.

Abbott, whose 3-pointer with 8.1 seconds left in regulation forced the first overtime session, scored a career-best 25 points.

The Sun Devils (14-2, 4-0 Pac-10) never led in the first overtime, but went ahead 89-88 in the second overtime when Harden sandwiched a pair of baskets around a 3-pointer by Cal's Ryan Anderson.

Abbott then buried consecutive 3-point shots and ASU was on its way to a 10th consecutive victory in its first road game since Dec. 2.

Anderson had 32 points and 14 rebounds for the Bears (11-5, 2-3) and Patrick Christopher had 23 against an ASU defense that hadn't allowed more than 65 points in the previous 12 games and was allowing just 56.7 per game.

STANFORD 56, ARIZONA 52, at Stanford -- Brook Lopez scored 19 points, including a tiebreaking jumper with less than 2 minutes left that helped the Cardinal snap a six-game losing streak to the Wildcats.

Lopez's baseline jumper with 1:55 to play put Stanford (14-3, 3-2) on top 54-52. Jordan Hill then missed a shot underneath at the other end for Arizona (11-6, 1-3) with Lopez lurking nearby.

No. 8 WASHINGTON STATE 69, OREGON STATE 46, at Pullman, Wash. -- Aron Baynes scored 17 points, and the Cougars (15-1, 3-1), coming off their only loss of the season at UCLA, broke open the game at the start of the second half, outscoring the Beavers (6-11, 0-5) 20-4 in the first nine minutes.

WASHINGTON 78, OREGON 70, at Seattle -- Jon Brockman had 21 points and 16 rebounds for his conference-leading 11th double-double, guiding the Huskies (10-7, 1-3) past the Ducks (12-5, 3-2).
