Teevan lifts MJC

Chris Teevan was the most valuable player at the West Valley Holiday Tournament, leading the Modesto JC men's basketball team to a 96-84 victory over De Anza in the championship game Sunday in Saratoga.

Teevan scored 22 points and had 14 assists. His performance wasn't the only highlight for the Pirates.

Marvin Jefferson scored a season-high 34 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. Eleazar Jones made five 3-pointers and scored 21 points.

All-tournament selection Brain Bergerson scored 14 points.

Modesto and De Anza were tied at halftime 41-41, and Jefferson scored 20 and Jones 19 in the second half as MJC pulled away.

"We were just consistent the whole second half," MJC coach Paul Brogan said. "We started getting the ball inside, and Marvin finally played to his potential offensively; he used his jump hook."
