Local Colleges: Behrs can't save Warriors

Scott Behrs recorded his first double-double of the season, but it wasn't enough as the Cal State Stanislaus men's basketball team fell to Notre Dame de Namur 75-65 in Belmont on Saturday.

Behrs scored 16 points and pulled down 14 rebounds for the Warriors (2-6) in a nonconference game. Heath Colvin added 16 points.

Stanislaus made 37.3 percent of its shots, going 9 for 25 from beyond the arc. Dan Bergeron paced the Argonauts (3-4) with 22 points.

MJC 70, WEST VALLEY 51, at Saratoga -- Brian Bergerson led the Pirates with 25 points and Chris Teevan added 15 while managing the game expertly to put Modesto in today's West Valley Holiday Tournament championship against De Anza at 4 p.m.

Coach Paul Brogan said the Pirates (7-5) did a great job of keeping their composure against a trapping-style defense. Teevan played the entire game, leading in assists (8) and grabbing eight rebounds. Marvin Jefferson scored 14 and hauled in 11 rebounds.

COLUMBIA 71, ALAMEDA 54, at Saratoga -- Marcus Cendro led a balanced Claim Jumpers effort with 12 points, all in the second half, in the second round of the West Valley Tournament.

John Hammell and Leo Sarrade each added 11 points. Sarrade had a team-high nine rebounds.

BUTTE 102, MERCED 84, at Stockton -- The Roadrunners' big men took care of things inside and adjusted to double coverage by firing from the outside as the Blue Devils were overrun at the Delta tournament.

Pavol Losonsky, Butte's 6-foot-8 post, led all scorers with 27 points. Butte (12-2) made 12 3-pointers and had five players in double figures. Julius Cheeks scored 21 points and Justin Sparks added 17 for Merced (5-9).
