Stanislaus St. hoops set for 'Good Day'

The Cal State Stanislaus women's basketball team will be featured today on the Channel 31 morning news show "Good Day Sacramento" at 7 and 8 a.m. The Warriors will shoot hoops with Alan "The Intern" Sanchez, a Turlock native and former Modesto JC soccer player.

Vick asked judge for 'second chance'

Michael Vick declared "I am not the bad person or beast I've been made out to be" and asked for leniency in a letter to the federal judge who sentenced him to 23 months in prison for a dogfighting conspiracy. Vick made his handwritten plea from jail as he awaited Monday's sentencing by Judge Henry E. Hudson. His five-page letter and several others from Vick supporters, including baseball great Hank Aaron and former heavyweight boxing champion George Foreman, were released by the U.S. District Court in Richmond, Va., on Thursday. "I take full responsibility for my actions and am ashamed that my actions hurt animals and allowed animals to be hurt and killed," Vick wrote. " ... Your Honor, I just ask for a second chance." NFL.

Cardinal to open '08 versus Oregon State

Stanford will open its 2008 football season at home against Oregon State, moving the game from late October to August. The Pac-10 made the change to the schedule Wednesday, switching the game from Oct. 25 to either Thursday, Aug. 28, or Saturday, Aug. 30.
