Two pieces of good news came to the Modesto Junior College women's soccer team Monday.
The Pirates defeated host Cañada 3-1 in a nonconference game, a victory Modesto coach Steve Aristotelous said he hopes will insure his team a home game in the first round of the playoffs.
After testing her delicate left hip Monday, freshman goalie Dana White might also be back at full strength by the time playoffs begin. White, who has been recovering from a fractured hip, had five saves. She split time with Amanda Quimby, who had three saves.
Vanessa Stanfield scored two goals for the No. 11 Pirates (11-3-1) and Lucero Villasenor added the third. Jackie Ibanez had two assists and Abby Barton had one. Cañada (11-3-2) was down 3-0 before scoring with 15 minutes left.
The Pirates play at Big 8 Conference rival American River today.
