Digest: Modesto women defeat Delta 3-1

Lucero Villasenor scored twice in the last 28 minutes Friday to lift the Modesto Junior College women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Delta.

Carly Genzoli scored and assisted on one of Villasenor's goals in the Big 8 Conference game, and Modesto also had two goals called back.

Goalie isn't a safe place to be this year for anyone in a Modesto JC jersey. In Friday's game, Brittany Randle hyperextended a knee after recording three saves. The Pirates had already lost three true goalies this season.

MODESTO JC 3, DELTA 0, at MJC -- Victor Perez had a goal and an assist as the Pirates improved to 9-4-3 overall and 4-4-1 in Big 8 Conference play.

College Men's Soccer

CS DOMINGUEZ HILLS 1, CS STANISLAUS 0 (OT), at Carson -- The No. 17-ranked Toros scored 3:46 into overtime as Humberto Lopez collected a loose ball deep in the Stanislaus box and blasted it far post.

The Toros outshot Stanislaus 20-5, including 9-1 after the first period, while tallying an 8-2 advantage in corners. Stanislaus keeper Mando Herrera made six saves.

College Women's Soccer

CS DOMINGUEZ HILLS 2, CS STANISLAUS 1, at Carson -- The No. 24 Toros got a goal from Corrie Hirokawa just 19 seconds into the match. Hirokawa had a goal and an assist for the Toros (12-2-3, 7-2-2 California Collegiate Athletic Association). With Chico State defeating UC San Diego 1-0 on the road Friday, the Warriors (9-7-2, 7-3-2 CCAA) fall back to second place two points behind the Wildcats.

College Volleyball

UC SAN DIEGO 3, CS STANISLAUS 0, at San Diego -- The No. 20-ranked Tritons (14-6, 8-4 CCAA) tallied 16 aces in their 30-24, 30-16, 30-25 sweep of the Warriors (5-18, 1-11).

Nicole Musso had five kills and 11 blocks for the Warriors. Caitlin Steffeck set a new school in career blocks with four total, one solo, bringing her career number to 292. Angie Tribble had 290 from 1997 to 2000.

High School Soccer

BEYER 3, ENOCHS 0, at Enochs -- Mitchell Simons got the Patriots (5-5-3 Modesto Metro Conference) rolling with a first-half header, then scored another after the break in a win over the Eagles (2-10-1 MMC).

DAVIS 1, MODESTO 0, at Modesto -- Arnoldo Gutierrez's second-half score was all the Spartans (5-3-5 MMC) needed to defeat the Panthers (8-3-2 MMC). Kyle Ausena had six saves.

DOWNEY 3, JOHANSEN 1, at Johansen -- The Knights (7-3-3 MMC) got goals from Jose Villa, Nick Cash and Sam Bell in their victory over the Vikings (4-7-2 MMC).
