High School Roundup: Johansen rallies, tops Modesto

Fifteen minutes into the second half Friday, the Johansen High boys soccer team trailed first-place Modesto High 3-1.

Then ... whoosh!

The Vikings (3-4-2 Modesto Metro Conference) scored the game's last four goals for a 5-3 victory. The Panthers dropped to 7-1-1 in league play.

Rafael Britmartins scored the tying and go-ahead goals as part of his three-goal day. Vas Gihos had two assists.

Johansen coach Ninos Isaac said he benched several starters the previous game for disciplinary reasons -- those starters were back in the lineup Friday.

"I think it showed a lot of character," Isaac said of those players. "They knew they had to do well today because their backs were against the wall."

DOWNEY 2, BEYER 0, at Downey -- Nick Cash scored in each half for the Knights (6-1-2 MMC). Downey goalkeepers Diego Vera (10) and Canek Ambriz (two) combined for 12 saves.

ENOCHS 0, DAVIS 0, at Enochs -- Josh Garcia made five saves for Davis (2-3-4 MMC) and Arturo Morales had seven saves for the Eagles (1-7-1 MMC).

Morales made a least two saves that stopped sure goals, including a kick save to stop a breakaway, as Enoch notched its first shutout in its first season of varsity soccer.
