Kings open preseason without 2 key big men

SACRAMENTO -- Kings forward Shareef Abdur-Rahim will take at least three weeks off to rest his surgically repaired right knee.

And first-round pick Spencer Hawes will travel to Seattle on Tuesday to get a second opinion on his sore left knee from his personal physician.

The moves will leave Sacramento without two key big men in its preseason opener Tuesday against Seattle.

Abdur-Rahim had arthroscopic surgery in the offseason and hasn't completely healed. He averaged a career-low 9.9 points last season. Hawes, the 7-foot center and 10th overall pick out of Washington, had a second MRI exam on his left knee Wednesday night. He twisted it during a conditioning drill. ...
