RIPON -- Ripon High forward Eric Cavanaugh celebrated his first hat trick of the season Tuesday, and he had teammate Gabe Talaffo to thank for the feat.
Talaffo assisted on all three of Cavanaugh's goals as Ripon, The Bee's No. 4-ranked small school, beat Hughson 6-1 to stay in contention for the Trans-Valley League title.
Escalon is atop the TVL at 7-0, with Ripon (5-2) and Riverbank (4-3) close behind. The three will play each other again before the regular season comes to an end.
ESCALON 8, RIPON CHR. 3, at Ripon -- Jose Lopez had two goals and two assists, as the No. 3 small-school Cougars rolled to a 7-0 halftime lead over the Knights (1-6).

RIVERBANK 9, MODESTO CHR. 0, at Riverbank -- Gerardo Ramirez had a hat trick, scoring three goals, as the Bruins (5-2 TVL) topped the Crusaders (3-4).
TURLOCK 2, GOLDEN VALLEY 1, at Turlock -- Tristan Silva and Jose Astoraga found the back of the net as the Bulldogs (3-3 Central California Conference) beat the Cougars (0-5-1).
MERCED 7, LOS BANOS 1, at Merced -- Bladimar Murillo, Octavio Murillo and Hector Berber had two goals each as the Bears (2-2-2 CCC) routed the Tigers.
CENTRAL VALLEY 4, CERES 1, at Ceres -- Jose Haro scored the first of his two goals on a cross from Pedro Gomez early in the second half, giving the Hawks (3-4 Valley Oak League) a 2-1 lead on their way past the crosstown rival Bulldogs (3-4).
PITMAN 6, GOLDEN VALLEY 0, at Pitman -- Heather Cotter rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Rachel Callister, raising her record to 15-0, as the Pride (6-2 CCC) blanked the Cougars (0-8). "(Heather) goes into every match with something to work on. That's just her personality," said coach Jeff Hayes.
OAKDALE 11, WESTON RANCH 4, at Oakdale -- No. 1 singles Carolyn Rowley lost only three games while rolling to three victories and leading the Mustangs (4-3 VOL) past the Cougars.
MODESTO 7, DAVIS 0, at Davis -- The Panthers (8-0 Modesto Metro Conference) stayed perfect as No. 1 singles Katie Eng won 6-0, 6-0 during a shutout of the Spartans (0-8).
ESCALON 152, RIPON CHR. 160, at Escalon -- Virginia Pinasco birdied the 81-yard, par-3 No. 3 on her way to a 5-over 36, hitting her tee shot to within two feet of the hole, to lead the Cougars (11-2, 8-2 Valley Foothill League North) over the Knights (5-5, 4-5). Abby Nolen and Megan Hoeksema kept RC close with 37s.
HUGHSON 166, ORESTIMBA 215, at River Oaks -- Despite playing on aerated greens, which made putting difficult, Cassie Anderson fired a 3-over 34 and the Huskies (9-1 VFL South) topped the Warriors (2-9).
CENTRAL CATHOLIC 196, PATTERSON 225, at Dryden -- Junior Brittany Storer, in her first season playing golf, made her first hole in one on the 163-yard 17th at Dryden Park as the Raiders (11-0 VFL North) beat the Tigers.
TURLOCK 244, MERCED 299, at Merced -- Emily Szabo's 4-over 40 led the way as the conference-leading Bulldogs beat the Bears.

MODESTO 15, DOWNEY 2, at Modesto -- Mikayla Walker and Tatiana Altmen combined for nine goals, while Kaela Anderson played strong in the goal, as the Panthers (12-6, 6-1 MMC) routed the Knights (0-7).
CERES 7, OAKDALE 5, at Ceres -- Laura Goblirsch scored four goals to lead the Bulldogs (4-3 MMC) past the Mustangs (3-4).
ATWATER 14, BUHACH COLONY 3, at Buhach Colony -- Kristelle Choquette led a balanced attack with four goals as the Falcons (6-6, 3-3 CCC) beat the Thunder.
