Sebastian Janikowski nailed a 52-yard field goal at 11:13 of overtime for Oakland. But as the Raiders rushed the field in celebration and the Broncos hung their heads in defeat, the officials ruled Denver called a timeout just before the snap. On the retry, Janikowski's kick hit the left upright, giving the Broncos new life and the ball at their 42. They drove to the Oakland 6 and Elam nailed it on first down.
BY THE NUMBERS
20-5: Denver coach Mike Shanahan's record against Oakland.
159: Oakland running back LaMont Jordan's career-high rushing total.
THEY SAID IT
"I just told (the officials) I was going to call a timeout beforehand. I told them that as they were lining up I was going to call it. I had plenty of time -- there were probably two seconds before (Janikowski kicked it)."
-- Shanahan on his timeout call
"It's football. That's the way the ball bounces. We've got to keep fighting. It's going to bounce our way sometime."
-- Raiders WR Jerry Porter
