Myers' serving leads Johansen to victory

Relax, Johansen High volleyball fans, Emily Myers is here to serve. Among other things.

The Johansen High senior had 10 aces and served for 26 total points Wednesday in a 25-16, 25-16, 22-25, 25-23 Modesto Metro Conference win over Beyer.

Myers is a standout setter and also had 11 blocks as the Vikings improved to 2-0 in league.

Megan Johnson had 16 digs for Johansen and Kayla Rovig had eight for Beyer (0-2 MMC).

DOWNEY 3, DAVIS 0, at Downey -- Elise Neville had eight kills and Kellie Kincheloe nine digs for the Knights (2-0 MMC) in a 25-22 25-16 25-19 victory. Jessica Irwin had seven kills and Elise Belletto four aces for Davis (0-2 MMC).

MODESTO 3, ENOCHS 0, at Enochs -- Ashley Nickell had 11 digs and four aces and Isabel Santana also had four aces in helping Modesto (3-1, 2-0 MMC) to a 25-23, 25-14, 25-18 win over Enochs (5-7, 0-2).

Marin Felix had nine digs for Enochs.

Boys Cross Country

TRANS-VALLEY LEAGUE MEET, at Tuolumne River Regional Park -- German Fernandez of Riverbank won by more than two minutes on the 5-kilometer (3.1 miles) course. His time of 15 minutes, 19 seconds led the Bruins (29 points) to victory over Escalon (51) and three other TVL schools.

Chris Nunez (17:35) of Riverbank was second and Cirilo Chavez (17:36) of Hilmar finished third.

CENTRAL CALIFORNIA CONFERENCE MEET, at Donnelly Park (Turlock) -- Pitman and Golden Valley each defeated Turlock and Buhach Colony. Andrew Ray of BC was the individual winner in 15:34 on the 3-mile course.

Girls Cross Country

TRANS-VALLEY LEAGUE MEET, at Tuolumne River Regional Park -- Pearl Rivers of Escalon won the 5K race in 21:29, but Riverbank (21) defeated Escalon (38) and Ripon (75) for the team title as Taylor Anderson (21:48) led a 2-3-4-5 Bruin finish.

CENTRAL CALIFORNIA CONFERENCE MEET, at Donnelly Park (Turlock) -- Turlock and Buhach Colony each defeated Pitman and Golden Valley. Freshman Jennifer Ramos of Buhach was first in 19:30.

Girls Golf

HUGHSON 214, ORESTIMBA 268, at Diablo Grande Ranch Course -- Cassie Anderson of Hughson (5-0 Valley Foothill League) fired a 4-over-par 40 that included a birdie on No. 8.

Boys Soccer

DOWNEY 2, DAVIS 0, at Downey -- Goals by Sam Bell and Nick Cash in the first half lifted the Knights (2-0 MMC) over the Spartans (0-2). Downey's defense dominated the field, as Diego Vera was required to make only two saves.

MODESTO 4, ENOCHS 1, at Enochs -- Jesus Paisillas had two goals and Jorge Esparza a goal and an assist for Modesto (2-0 MMC).

PATTERSON 4, CENTRAL CATHOLIC 0, at Modesto -- Rodrigo Aldana scored twice as the Tigers (6-2, 2-0 Western Athletic Conference) dominated the Raiders (2-4-2, 0-2).
