Forward's gritty play leads Atwater to win

TRACY -- Atwater High forward Jesse Horta, after being tracked by two defenders much of Tuesday afternoon, picked an opportune time to break free.

With the score tied at 2, he took a pass from Alex Zdanowski at midfield and dribbled past three defenders to score the go-ahead goal as the Falcons defeated Tracy 4-2.

Tracy (3-1-1) tied the match at 2 on Matt Garrigan's penalty kick early in the second half. Horta then put Atwater (6-1-1) ahead for good with 13 minutes left.

"Jesse was real aggressive, going right toward the goal and splitting the defenders," Atwater coach Jimmy Brewer said. Edmundo Garcia gave Atwater a two-goal lead by scoring with five minutes left.

"(Tracy) had a couple fast players and we had to make sure not to let balls get over the top of us," Brewer said. "(Tracy's Ryan Jakes) was faster than anyone we had, so we gave him some room in the open field and marked him closely near the (penalty) box."
