Residents of Modesto and surrounding communities in the Northern San Joaquin Valley experienced another cold, cold night, enduring a second round of freezing temperatures. But it shouldn't be so cold tonight.
The Modesto Irrigation District gauge in downtown Modesto showed the temperature at 29 degrees at 7 a.m. That apparently will be the low for the day as the temperature climbed back above freezing.
The record for Dec. 9 is 22 degrees, set in 1972, according to the MID.
The weather service expects one more frigid night tonight, with a low of 30 degrees expected. Temperatures should warm a bit over the next few days, but we'll trade the freezing temperatures for some rain.
