SACRAMENTO - A Union Pacific freight train derailment interrupted service Monday between Martinez and Richmond, and caused delays of Amtrak's Capitol Corridor trains between the Sacramento and the Bay Area.
The derailment Sunday west of the Martinez station on tracks owned by Union Pacific will affect service until Monday afternoon. Capitol Corridor passengers are being placed on buses between Martinez and Richmond.
Amtrak San Joaquin trains, originating in Oakland, will detour between Antioch and Emeryville, missing stops at Martinez and Richmond, according to an Amtrak news release. Alternate transportation will be provided.
The eastbound California Zephyr, Train Six, will detour via Stockton to Sacramento. It will miss stops at Martinez and Davis; alternate transportation will be provided for those passengers to catch the train in Sacramento.
Southbound Coast Starlight Train 11 passengers will be bused between Sacramento and Oakland. They will reconnect with the train at Oakland.
