A house fire in north Modesto sent a man to the hospital early this morning with smoke inhalation, according to fire crews.
Three engines and two trucks responded to the fire about midnight on Mansfield Lane near Sherwood Park to find smoke and flames coming from a bedroom window, Modesto Fire Battalion Chief Mark Johansen said.
He said the man had gotten out but had then gone back inside looking for a family member who, unbeknownst to him, had escaped already. He said the smoke inhalation was minor and that the man was transported to the hospital as a precautionary measure. His name was unavailable.
Meanwhile, crews cut a hole in the roof and brought the fire under control within 15 minutes, Johansen said. Crews were on the scene for about four hours. The fire was limited to two front bedrooms, he said. The cause is under investigation.
