A 2-year-old boy riding a tricycle in the driveway of his family’s rural home was hit and killed Sunday by a sport utility vehicle driven by his sister, investigators said today.
The boy was identified by the California Highway Patrol as Jose Aguirre Jr.
CHP officer Shane Ferriera said the boy’s sister, Patricia Diaz, 21, was driving about 5 mph on the driveway in Winton at about 6:20 p.m. and didn’t see Jose as she made a turn. The back right tire of the 1999 Dodge Durango she was driving hit the boy, causing major injuries, he said.
He said she and the boy’s father rushed him to Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock, where the child died.
