MERCED - Buck William Gene Maxwell, 31, of Modesto was arrested on a drunken driving charge after a three-vehicle accident Sunday morning in which a Merced woman was slightly injured.
Lt. Floyd Higdon of the Merced Police Department said a Toyota Tacoma pickup driven by Maxwell struck a Ford Taurus four-door sedan driven by Kathleen Jantz, 60, of Merced, at 10:18 a.m. at 20th and U streets.
Officer Richard Morgan said Maxwell was traveling southbound on U Street and failed to stop for the posted stop sign at 20th Street, continuing into the intersection. Jantz was eastbound on 20th Street and struck the pickup near the right rear wheel.
The impact from the collision caused the Toyota pickup' rear end to spin around to the left, dropping the pickup onto its left side momentarily as it spun, and then righted itself again, falling onto the top of a parked silver Ford Expedition.
Maxwell was booked into Merced County Jail on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol and-or drugs. He posted $1,600 bail and was released. Jantz was treated for minor injuries at the scene.
No other injuries were reported. The collision is under investigation by the Merced Police Traffic Division.
