The regional air pollution agency today issued its first ban of the season against residential wood burning for Stanislaus County. The prohibition on burning begins at midnight and runs at least through midnight Friday.
The order issued by the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District applies to wood, pellets and manufactured firelogs.
A ban has also been issued for Fresno and Madera counties. A voluntary request for curtailment has been issued for Merced, Kings, Tulare and Kern counties.
Fines for a first-time violation of the ban start at $50.
