A big rig hit a bicyclist this afternoon on Briggsmore Avenue near Enslen Avenue.
The man, who was not carrying identification, was in critical condition at Memorial Medical Center.
Witnesses told police the west-bound truck started to get into the left lane to avoid a cyclist heading east on the far right side of the road toward traffic, said Sgt. Danny Key. Before the driver could get out of the lane, the cyclist veered toward the truck.
Traffic on westbound Briggsmore Avenue west of McHenry Avenue was diverted onto side streets while emergency personnel responded to the cyclist and investigators inspected the scene.
