Yaser Herrera: When government won’t help

This is the sad story of a stray dog found late Saturday night. No public shelter was open, so a call to Oakdale animal control suggested letting him loose if I couldn’t keep him (technically a misdemeanor). Escalon Animal Shelter wouldn’t take him because they’re in a turf battle with Oakdale about who gets the profit from strays, and they didn’t want to get into trouble over taking a stray not found in their city. And everyone else is closed Sundays. This, in a nutshell, is why people lose faith in government.
