Alexis Arias: Take teaching transition slower

Regarding “Common Core stumps parents, children alike” (Page A6, June 30): As a high school student listening to the opinions of my classmates, the whole Common Core transition is too sudden. As a sophomore, having teachers come in and change the way you have been learning for your whole school career is not fun nor is it easy; the adjustments are sometimes too different; it makes it difficult to focus in class. Not only is it difficult for students and parents to adjust, it also seems difficult for teachers as they are expected to change their ways of teaching. Though the Common Core standards are helping students achieve higher academic performance, the transition should be more subtle.
