Closing station unfortunate, necessary
Regarding “Fire station closure gets 2nd look” (Page A1, June 26): Voters were well informed that budget cuts were going to occur when Measure X didn’t pass. The closure of Fire Station No. 6 is an unfortunate outcome.
Diverting $1 million from the employee benefits fund and the workers’ compensation fund is not a responsible solution.
I urge the Modesto City Council to take a good look at the negative consequences of borrowing against these already depleted funds. A balanced budget is the right approach to putting Modesto back on track.
