In regards to the articles about the cities of Turlock and Modesto looking to raise revenue by putting sales tax measures on the ballot: At what point do we hold the state, counties and cities accountable for their spending problems?
I bet that most Californians do not realize the state is raising the gas tax 3 cents per gallon starting in July. That will make the total taxes per gallon in California 73 cents a gallon. That is $7.30 per 10 gallons and they say the average fill-up is 14 gallons. People, you really need to start holding these people accountable for the taxes and fees that this state has added in the last year (lumber fee, paint fee) are just a few that have quietly been added and we still think we need more money. Why not be accountable?
In Turlock, Fulkerth Road is getting a make-over that is costing just over $1 million — $600,000-plus is coming from the federal government, $200,000-plus from California recycle and $300,000 from a designated gas tax. The sign also claims zero tax dollars. Then who is paying for it? They think we are all stupid!
