Republicans should sacrifice a few sacred cows

It is amazing that the resources that we have available to us could not be pursued.

We could solve our crisis if we only addressed the sacred cows — oil subsidies that generate immense profits with no tax commitment, corporations that pay no taxes and military expenses that engulf close to half the the budget. It is disgusting that we finance 854 military bases and cannot pay for health care. The World Health Organization ranks our health care system 40th in the world.

Medicare has a 6 percent overhead as compared to private health care having a 24 percent overhead. As for Social Security, it is not part of the budget and currently has a large surplus. It is obvious that the Republicans are in the hip pockets of the wealthy corporate sector and ignore the needs of the less fortunate.
