The letter "Build the roads first" (June 11) has me thinking. Like good little sheep, Ceres could approve the Wal-Mart supercenter. Or Ceres could take the road less traveled, the one that other successful communities have taken, and do what's best for Ceres without worrying about pleasing Wal-Mart.
Get the roads in place and avoid any knee- jerk response to growth. While planning the roads, find out what Ceres can do to attract quality projects and sit-down restaurants.
Ceres has the power to plan its growth and make sure the prerequisites have been taken care of — which requires not following the herd and denying Wal-Mart its supercenter.
