It is news when a science teacher fires a rebellious shot across the bow of the school board in defiance of the board-adopted curriculum and the contract that the teacher signed when he accepted the job. It would be appropriate for the union to step in with some free legal advice for the teacher, who seems to need it, and for the story to be covered as a legal issue, if at all.
We should all heed the advice of Sharon Johnson: "Science versus religion is a false dichotomy." Intelligent design ideology belongs where it is, in the religion department. The science teacher could perhaps be a guest speaker in that class.
The Bee's coverage of this false dichotomy promotes the false dichotomy and leads only to a debate that is itself a false dichotomy.
