Smoking gun of lobbyist power

Finally our state government is doing something to protect us against ourselves! We won't be faced with the choice of trans fats/no trans fats as of 2010. I feel better already! Pass the lighter, please, I can't wait for a smoke to celebrate!

Now don't feel sorry for the trans fat industry. Remember, it creates a product that causes major health hazards for those who eat it. The tobacco industry, on the other hand, creates major hazards not only for people who smoke but for everyone around them as well. The difference between them is that while the trans fat industry has few lobbyists and little money to contribute to political figures, the tobacco industry has many lobbyists and lots of money to give to politicians. Moral of the story: Health is only as important as how much money it doesn't bring in.
