I have been a blood donor ever since I joined the Navy, more years ago than I would like to admit. I have given a considerable amount over this time. Giving blood does make me feel good about myself and the community. I thought that if I ever needed blood, the blood bank would help. But I was just thinking of drawing blood, not what really happened.
About two months ago it became apparent that I would need major surgery. During the preparations the thought about donating my own blood as backup for the procedure was suggested. My doctor's office asked. Let me tell you, the Delta Blood Bank does remember its donors! They not only would do this for me but they also would do it at no cost. When one is facing major surgery this is a tremendous psychological boost. They care!
I hope I can again contribute to Delta Blood Bank. And I hope others consider becoming blood donors.
