In response to "Vet's advice was off the mark" (July 23, Letters) in which the writer chastised Dr. Jeff Kahler for not recommending socialization of puppies until after the vaccination series were completed: With the purchase price of dogs (regardless of breeders, shelters, etc.), upkeep and training expense, the first thing you will need is a good vet. There was another letter a few days back, where a family lost a puppy because of illness. If my dog was exposed to that puppy or any other sick animal, I take the risk of losing my dog. I'll listen to my vet and keep the dog home during the vaccination process.
