The letter "Be skeptical if your car is towed" (April 25) gives me the suspicion that there is another breed of scam. My husband and I had a nightmare when our car was illegally towed while parked in a space that had a "for customer parking only" sign while patronizing a business in San Jose. There was a tow truck at the far end of the parking lot; we did not realize that it was waiting for a victim.
The owner of the popular fast food franchise (close to the university and near San Jose Convention Center) dared us to go to court to retrieve the $180 we paid the towing company. He knew we were out-of-towners because of our jacket, large picture of the presidential candidate we were supporting and tote bag behind the driver's seat. We spent less than 30 minutes inside the fast food place and the whole afternoon trying to get our car returned to us. We missed the rally and our day was spoiled by scam artists! It was a humiliating experience and we do not want this to happen to anyone else.
We accepted the challenge of the restaurant owner, and we are taking him to court. Such illegal towing must stop!
