The headline on the Cal Thomas column (April 25, Page B-7) said it all: "Hamas peddles lies and Carter is buying." Former President Carter fails to acknowledge that Islamic terrorist leaders have adopted Adolf Hitler's tactics of the Big Lie: Tell falsehoods often enough and loud enough and those lies will be accepted as truth. Even President Bush, whose foreign policy expertise is noticeably lacking, understands that negotiating with Islamic terrorists means accepting their falsehoods; Bush knows that the Islamic goal of "annihilation of Israel in order to bring peace and stability to the Middle East" is based on totally false premises.
Unfortunately, Carter evidently has not read the textbooks used by Palestinian and Arab schoolchildren; textbooks that teach hatred and vilification of Israel and encourage the youngest readers to do Allah's will by getting rid of the Jewish people.
In a rare show of unity, all three U.S. presidential candidates, as well as members of Congress on both sides, have criticized Carter's self-appointed ambassador role. In that role, wrote Thomas, Carter "continues to cause damage and undermine his country's foreign policy."
