In regard to Sen. John McCain not liking war and the letter "McCain doesn't know what war really is" (April 2): If the writer experi- enced the conditions he describes in his letter, he is to be com- mended and thanked for his service. However, that war was one of land, air and sea; McCain's service was one of air.
McCain has a military background through his grandfather and father, both honored veterans. McCain became a carrier pilot and flew an undisclosed number of missions in Vietnam. He was shot down behind enemy lines and spent years as a prisoner of war.
Through all his experiences, his statement of not liking war should be understood and not criticized.
