Letters to the Editor

Would a kind word have helped?

My friend and I frequent the Starbucks at Orangeburg Avenue and Oakdale Road. On several occasions, Alan Andrews would be there. He would never bother anyone or ask for anything. He was a quiet and lost soul. I am deeply saddened by his death ("Coroner identifies body in canal," March 25, Page B-2), but I also regret not giving him a kind word or even maybe a hot cup of coffee to lift his spirits.

Our state budget cuts should not be in mental health or in health care. No one should be left behind.
