Turlock needs a city-run teen center

As chairman of the Community Services Commission for the city of Turlock, we are taking on the charge of development of a teen center. Our community has come to rely on volunteer agencies to provide such services, but they cannot possibly meet the needs of a town of 70,000. With the Turlock Police Department relocating to a new building in the next couple of years, the existing property, centrally located, could become a location for serious consideration. The citizens of Turlock must decide how much we are willing to step up for our teenage children. As Turlock looks around to other communities, we find that virtually all have teen recreation centers. Why not Turlock? We pride ourselves as being a place with a high standard of living, with opportunities for all, a wonderful place to raise our children. Yet we are woefully behind area communities in investing in our teenagers. As chairman, I urge individuals to attend our next meeting and join in determining how we can get this project off the ground
