Civil libertarians are outraged by Guantánamo, the Pentagon edict against acquittals in trials there. And unlimited wiretaps. We'd just as soon put our energy into them. But we see local police shootings on front pages. We remember the Sepulveda boy, and a Christmas shootout that also claimed a Ceres Police Department sergeant.
And we deem civilian police review boards way overdue. Both the American Civil Liberties Union and National Association for the Advancement of Colored People chapters will push them with more vigor.
The Stanislaus ACLU chapter board meets at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday at the Modesto Peace Life Center, on 13th between G and
H streets. Visitors are welcome.
