It's been some time since I was in Modesto but it was a great pleasure to visit, if only for a brief time, on Feb. 20 for the start of Stage 3 of the Amgen Tour of California. I was a member of the motor marshal team and I told my companions that I was sure Modesto would go all out, and that was the case. The spectator turnout was remarkable and inspiring for all of us.
We spent quite a bit of time preparing for Stage 3, given the amount of climbing involved and the possibility of unpleasant weather. However, it turned out to be the most pleasant day of the tour and all went well.
I hope Modesto is selected again next year, as the stage was one of the most exciting and challenging for the riders and those of us in support. Thanks for supporting a great race, and hope to see you next year.
