In response to the couple who felt there might have been a dishonest transaction between a rescue group and the Stanislaus County shelter for a dog they had wanted to adopt ("Great dog sent to San Francisco," Jan. 18, Letters): Rescue groups are always looking for volunteers and foster homes for thousands of homeless pets. Would you consider volunteering or fostering for an organization that rescues your preferred breed? You will learn what an honest labor of love, time and commitment rescuing is. Along the way, you may receive and get to know a foster dog who you decide to adopt yourself.
