Letters to the Editor

You, not politicians, run your life

Regarding "Vote with you brain and wallet" (Jan. 7, Letters): I feel compelled to ask: Why does the government owe Joe Six-Pack anything?

Since the president took office, unemployment figures are at all-time lows, income is higher than ever across all brackets and the freedom to be or do anything to better yourself in this country is still there. Yet apparently the letter writer doesn't think that is enough, and to put it in his terms, he's being screwed by the GOP.

Last I checked, government isn't responsible for buying your gas, your house or your medical care. Honestly, is there a politician, Democrat or Republican, you want making those decisions for you? Look no further than FEMA after Hurricane Katrina or our fractured Social Security system.

Take responsibility for your own life and quit blaming a political party.
