The words of Paul Bremer, administrator of the Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq and recent speaker at the Almond Board of California, need rebutting. Bremer claims the occupation of Iraq was not bungled. In truth, the occupation was bungled, and Bremer was one of the chief culprits. His decisions to rid Iraq of Baathist leadership and dissolve the Iraqi armed forces radically undercut the social stability of Iraq and built opposition and resentment to the American presence.
Bremer is trying to sell books and engage in some serious CYA, but his spin is not aligned with the facts. For those with interest, read Thomas Ricks' best-seller "Fiasco," that details the American misadventure in Iraq.
