It's sad that Modesto's City Council has chosen to cut funding for the police and fire departments. With all the issues on Friday and Saturday nights in the downtown area, cutting 25 officers is only going to make overtime costs increase. Fire protection is also needed. Since the city made good on promises to the nonprofit Gallo Center for the Arts with landscaping and street repaving, where are the tax dollars the city was promised from it? Maybe the city needs to ask for a donation from the family that had to have this theater so that we could keep our city safe from crime and fire.
