Letters to the Editor

Modesto has lost its spontaneity

When I first came to Modesto more than 30 years ago, the thing I noticed most was the small-town friendliness of its people. Although I think it's still there, the friendliness seems to have weakened greatly as Modesto has gotten so much larger.

Why so many prohibitions in Modesto? No more true graffiti weekends (the most notable and spontaneous thing Modesto had), no more lighted tennis courts (something healthy for adults and youth) and now limited dancing in downtown clubs (natural and healthy thing for adults). We need to create more spontaneous and healthy outlets, not suppress them.
