I would like to praise Covenant Church in Escalon for recognizing that disabled individuals need a place to worship God ("Escalon church's home plan under way," Oct. 15, Page B-1). So many churches today do not focus on the needs of the disabled and poor; instead, they are catering to the wealthy and more prominent members.
For instance, a Catholic church plans a fashion show and some Protestants are busy working on a play for Christmas. It is easier for these churches to give money to charity organizations than actually open their doors to the poor and disabled. They just don't want to be bothered with these kind of problems. So it is refreshing and very Christian to see a church build a home for the disabled.
Jesus said, "Blessed are the poor and meek." That was the last sermon where Jesus emphasized that we need to take care of these people. Are we too selfish or too proud to do what Jesus asked of us? The Covenant Church is on the right path.
